The Accountant II, Grant Accountant is responsible for the general fiscal and administrative oversight of externally-sponsored projects at SIUE. The Grant Accountant facilitates the administration of projects for principal investigators (PIs) and fiscal officers (FOs) by reviewing award documents; interpreting and enforcing sponsor guidelines; maintaining a centralized database for all awarded projects; keeping PIs and FOs informed of all pertinent deadlines; reviewing and approving changes of assignments and other expenses; communicating with sponsors regarding fiscal and administrative matters; submitting invoices and other financial and administrative reports to sponsors; alerting PIs and FOs of any account that may be in danger of being overspent; closing grant accounts in a timely manner; assisting with audit-related issues; and keeping current with the changing regulatory landscape associated with external funding.
The selected candidate will need to be computer savvy (able to use various sponsor systems, research administration software (Kuali Research), and Microsoft Access), be able to communicate well, be able to analyze complex issues and identify potential solutions, possess a positive and flexible attitude, be customer/client-oriented, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines. Required Qualifications: 1. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three (3) years (36 months), from the categories below: (a) Work experience and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field. (b) College course work and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field including 12 semester hours in accounting: Associate Degree (60 semester hours) equals 18 months. 90-semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months). Bachelor’s Degree or higher (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months). 2. A total of two (2) years (24 months) of experience in professional level accounting work consistent with the next lower level of this series. (a) An advanced degree in accountancy or registration as a Certified Public Accountant may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications: -Knowledge of GAAP, grant/fund accounting, Uniform Guidance and State of Illinois regulations. -High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Word, Excel) and enterprise financial systems. -Ability to analyze complex fiscal and administrative issues and apply the appropriate measures for resolution. -Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders. -Have a positive and flexible attitude and with excellent customer service skills. -Ability to work in fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines, projects, and client contacts. -Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and client contacts.
