SUMMARY: Belmont Bank & Trust Company is seeking a qualified, dedicated & motivated individual to perform responsible general accounting functions and clerical duties and routine administrative functions for the Chief Financial Officer. Under general supervision, in support of the accounting function, the candidate will need to perform a variety of moderately complex accounting procedures including processing entries to the general ledger and retrieving items posted to member accounts; balancing and reconciling general ledgers and correspondent bank accounts; processing accounts payable documentation; extracting and compiling financial data on request; maintaining related records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Balances and reconciles bank statements.
Maintains general and subsidiary ledgers and journals; posts debits and credits; records weekly receipts and balances with computer printout. Examines and records financial transactions and charges to proper accounts.
Takes trial balances and prepares balance sheets and income statements.
Prepares check requisitions and general vouchers.
Maintains statistical records and prepares periodic reports.
May be responsible for assistance in the preparation of payroll.
Answers the telephone; takes and relays messages and responds to inquiries from vendors and the general public.
Enters changes of appropriate data into computer via on-line computer terminal and checks accuracy in entry.
Assists in the maintenance of the investment securities subsidiary ledger and reconciles said ledger to general ledger; Compute and record interest on notes receivable and payable, as applicable, and update files and schedules.
Maintain inventory of bank's office supplies and be responsible for researching and requesting bids for purchasing.
May maintain fixed asset inventory including determination necessary to tag and delete equipment from fixed asset inventory; maintain depreciation schedule for fixed assets.
Assists with preparation of bank budgets and income statement pro forma projections.
Types routine letters, reports and forms as needed.
Prepare Bank reconciliations for appropriate supervisory review.
Procedures include recording monthly operating results and recurring entries, reviewing coding on invoices, reviewing monthly transaction registers, reconciling general ledger accounts, recording equity income to parent, accounting for property and income taxes, and review of monthly financial statements.
General accounts receivable and accounts payable processing including invoicing, preparing agings, reconciling accounts, and pursuing collections.
Maintain and update shareholder distribution activities. Prepare monthly shareholder relation’s activity management reports, accounting and reconciliations.
Supports bank functions by monitoring the processing of checks and electronic transactions by the clearing system.
Assists in the monthly preparation of Board of Directors’ financial reports.
Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
Work experience in the accounting field a plus but not required.
Should have knowledge of the basic principles of bookkeeping and routine accounting procedures.
Skill to make and verify computations with accuracy, to compile statistical data and prepare routine reports.
Skill or ability to learn accounting systems, spreadsheet and database software.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as spread and balance sheets, invoices, and correspondence.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak before the general public and employees of the organization.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions and percentages.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures.
Basic knowledge or ability to learn state and federal banking compliance regulations and other bank operational policies.
Ability to meet communicated schedules and deadlines
