The Assistant Vice President, Investment Accounting has ultimate responsibility for all investment accounting functions. The Assistant Vice President will develop and maintain an investment data warehouse and will execute and lead a variety of investment assurance and reporting functions for the Company.
The Assistant Vice President is a hand-on leadership role and in addition to building, coaching and overseeing a team of investment accounting professionals, will often be call upon to perform various tasks and analyses directly.
Disseminates accurate and timely financial investment portfolio reports, including STAT and GAAP financial statements, core investment earnings reports and prepares various reports as requested by senior management, regulatory agencies and rating agencies.
Leads and has the ability to perform all investment accounting activities including recording of all daily trade activity, monthly portfolio earnings, calculations, investment funds withheld computations (reinsurance), IMR and AVR maintenance and recording of required investment accounting entries in the general ledger for multiple legal entities.
Maintains an investment data warehouse that will be vital to the accurate and timely reporting of all investment accounting information for all insurance entity related portfolios.
Provides compliance and regulatory support to the Front Office team concerning new investments and reporting thereon.
Assists and coordinates various audits of company records with internal and external auditors, department of insurance personnel and internal revenue agents.
Establishes new investment accounting reports and/or portfolios for all special projects.
Participates in continuing and ongoing education related to the investment industry, new accounting pronouncements and company standards and procedures.
Leads and develops a team of investment accounting professionals to meet or exceed department goals and objectives. Actively participates in the interviewing, hiring and training of new team members, evaluates performance and makes recommendations regarding employment and compensation.
Coaches and motivates staff to continuously provide excellent service to internal and external customers.
Willingly takes on additional responsibilities as requested in order to accomplish department and Company objectives.
Actively participates and contributes to the goals and objectives of the Company by working collaboratively and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
10+ years investment accounting experience
Bachelors and CPA required. Advanced degree highly preferred
Excellent oral, written, listening and presentation skills and ability to clearly articulate complex information.
Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and solve problems and issues
Ability to establish positive relationships and work effectively with all departments and affiliates to ensure integration of strategic goals and principles.
Demonstrated ability to utilize technology to work more efficiently and more productively and as an auditing tool.
Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
Ability to quickly learn new technology systems and software.
Superior judgment regarding decisions that potentially impact multiple departments and external operating groups.
Ability to make sound decisions concerning numerous ongoing regular responsibilities and special projects with regard to priority, project assignments.
Ability to retain and apply a wide range of confidential and proprietary information in order to protect the privacy of customers, clients and the intellectual property of the company.
Ability to influence and/or mentor team members within the greater Accounting function.
Must possess a high degree of accountability and ownership for deliverables.
Ability to effectively plan, prioritize and forecast department goals, objectives and deliverables.
Ability to ensure alignment between strategy and operations.
Ability to work independently and manage a team in order to execute strategic initiatives.
Demonstrated success in process improvements.
Advanced working knowledge of statutory investment accounting platforms (i.e. CAMRA, PAM, Clearwater).
