** As part of the Supervisory & Professional Contract the position is eligible for an additional 2% base wage salary increase beginning July 1, 2019.**
Under general direction of the Finance Director or designee, performs professional accounting duties and financial analysis work in the maintenance and control of the City’s accounting systems and fiscal services; performs related duties as required. Reviews, prepares, enters and posts journal entries and daily receipting. Assures accounting compliance with applicable governmental accounting standards board (GASB), generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), State laws and regulations, federal or state or county grant requirements, City Code and departmental policies. Makes recommendations for procedural changes and the implementation of new internal controls to ensure the safeguarding of City assets. Organizes, maintains, and assists with retention requirements for City files and data. Initiates, reconciles, and closes out purchases orders and grants. Prepares, processes, and maintains account receivables and payables. Provides support services to the City Departments with invoicing. Participates in the compilation and preparation of all required information to complete the City’s annual financial statement audit.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field is required; and at least two years of progressive accounting experience. An additional three years of progressive accounting experience to include the recording of transactions in, and reconciliation and monitoring of various general ledger accounts may be substituted for an Associate’s Degree.
Highly Desired Qualifications:
Experience with fund accounting in a municipal or state or tribal or federal governmental organization. Professional certification - e.g. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM).
