GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Plans, organizes and manages activities related to finance including accounts payable, accounts receivable, investments, bank reconciliations and school activity accounts. Monitors the internal controls and seeks ways to improve the transparency of the district’s fiscal activities ensuring compliance of Federal and Governmental regulations with regards to financial accounting.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
Direct the accounting functions of the department in accordance with the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, the accepted standards of the accounting profession, and the rules of the State Board of Education.
Maintain knowledge of requirements such as labor contracts, accounting standards, audit findings, budget changes, and federal and state reporting requirements.
Direct and ensure the timely month-end and year-end closing of all financial accounts.
Facilitate the District’s year-end closing and audit activities through preparation of required schedules and procedures, to ensure timeliness of closing the District’s financial records
Approve, review and monitor transactions for appropriate general ledger accounts.
Oversee the management of general ledger accounts District wide.
Participate in monthly analysis of actual year-to-date financial results to budget and preparation of current forecast.
Investigate, recommend, and implement innovative, more efficient ways to accomplish accounting and financial activities within the District.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree required with relevant (finance/business/accounting) field of study. Master’s Degree preferred. Certified Public Accounting License required.
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: 6-8 years’ experience in comparable role.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. High degree of mathematical ability required for understanding school funding formulas, state tax laws and public school budgeting processes. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees as well as the public.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Applicant is expected to perform at the highest level of performance, representing the District and Finance Department in a courteous, efficient manner.
