This position exists to handle the monthly financial transactions ensuring timely recording of expenditures in compliance with corporate policies. This position is also involved in forecasting, budgeting, and maintaining financial compliance for US operations.
Accountable for recording and reporting of monthly financial results for various US entities.
Accountable to partner with leaders across the business to ensure operating expenses are reported accurately and timely and accruals are posted accordingly.
Accountable for coordinating operating expense and working capital forecasting / budgeting and uploading into SEM/BPS as well as monthly variance analysis for actual results.
Accountable for compliance with all internal and external financial policies.
Accountable to provide inputs and analysis as required in the Mid Range Forecast process.
Accountable for various monthly/quarterly/annual tax and governmental submissions.
Accountable for coding and depositing miscellaneous checks in bank account.
Accountable for reconciliation, clearing, and posting adjusting entries for all assigned balance sheet accounts following TransAlta financial policy and performing quarterly balance sheet variance analysis.
Accountable for performing US Board Support for Managing Director, Coal Finance.
Accountable for miscellaneous ad hoc reporting and analysis or other agreed upon tasks.
Accountable for maintaining a broad understanding of Supervisor, US Finance accountabilities and perform backup when necessary.
Accountable for maintaining a job process and procedures manual on file.
Bachelor’s degree and an Accounting Designation or equivalent experience
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of applicable financial and economic practices and standards
Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting and financial assessment of power generation business
Working knowledge of accounting standards
Demonstrated capability to interpret and communicate policies and standards
Demonstrated capability of using corporate financial systems (eg. SAP/SEM)
Demonstrated capability of effectively using Excel
Demonstrated capability to drive organizational change and continuous improvement
Team building aptitude, focus on productivity and creating collaboration within a broad team
Demonstrated capability in planning, implementing and leading change initiatives ensuring change leadership
