The City of Austin Employees’ Retirement System (COAERS) is currently seeking candidates for the position of Senior Accountant. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position coordinates and prepares financial data for COAERS’ Comprehensive Annual Financial Report; manages monthly retiree payroll and benefit payments; facilitates annual financial and procedural audits; and assists the investment staff in portfolio rebalancing, transition management, new manager funding, reconciliation of custodial bank statements, and disbursement and tracking of fund manager fees. This position will also review federal and state tax payments, staff payroll, accounts payable, and journal entries; and ensure COAERS’ compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and federal tax reporting regulations. The successful candidate will be encouraged to use initiative and independent judgment.

Experience and Education
CPA and an accounting or related Bachelor’s degree plus eight years of experience is required. The candidate will also be required to demonstrate a knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles; government accounting standards board statements; investment accounting practices; principles of cash and investment management; bank and IRS practices and procedures; tax issues; and financial and process audit procedures.
Certificates & Licenses
A Certified Public Accountant certification from the State of Texas is required. A Certificate in Performance Management (CIPM) or a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is preferred.
