The Staff Accountant supports Platte River’s general accounting and cash reporting activities. This position is responsible for preparing entries and recording cash, investment and general ledger activity and various account analysis reports. This position is also responsible for accounts receivable activities and bank and general ledger account reconciliations.
Supports power billing activities
Prepares transmission, telecommunications, customer information system, distribution, SCADA, and miscellaneous invoices for goods or work performed for others
Tracks accounts receivables and maintains accounts receivable aging report
Tracks cash and investments
Prepares cash, investments, standard, and miscellaneous journal entries
Reconciles and analyzes various general ledger accounts and bank statements
Tracks other income sources, including tower and fiber leases and prepare the other income budget
Tracks and prepares sales tax returns
Assists with the financial audit and prepares audit schedules
Maintains regular & reliable attendance
Develops and maintains written job responsibility procedures
Responds to questions from both internal and external customers
Performs data entry and review
Performs other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business administration, or related field
Intermediate level skill with Microsoft Excel using functions such as pivot tables, vlookups, creating charts, and maintaining complex spreadsheets
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse workforce
Proven ability to balance workload under multiple demands
Strong computer skills with experience working with financial applications
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and matters
Strong mathematical and problem solving abilities
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to work independently with minimal guidance or direction to meet performance goals and deadlines
Current valid driver’s license and ability to remain insurable under Platte River’s vehicle liability policy
Knowledge of FERC utility accounting
