American Institutes for Research (AIR) is currently seeking a Financial Reporting Specialist to join our Corporate Finance Office in Washington, D.C. (Georgetown). The Financial Reporting Specialist position is part of the Financial Reporting and Analysis (FRA) team. An integral part of FRA team’s responsibilities is to prepare corporate financial reports in compliance with applicable rules and regulations and for AIR’s business units, management, and board of directors. The FRA team strives to build robust financial reporting practice to deliver exceptional customer services and high-quality work products. The selected candidate will work alongside experienced accounting/financial professionals and have opportunities to pursuit mutual, long-term career development goals.
The selected candidate will support AIR’s accounting and financial reporting processes, especially in the areas pertaining to not-for-profit IRS and tax compliance. Key responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following: • Prepare IRS Forms 990, 990-T, and State and Local tax filings, including tax extensions and estimated payments. • Perform accounting functions surrounding AIR’s investment portfolio. • Review Schedule K-1 and audited financial statements from private equity investment funds, in connection with Form 990T’s unrelated business income tax and Form 990’s foreign activities reporting. • Respond to notices and/or inquiries from Federal, State and Local tax authorities. • Stay up-to-date on emerging tax laws impacting on not-for-profit organizations and assist in establishing an efficient tax return preparation process. • Assist with preparation of state charitable filings. • Prepare tax returns For AIR’s international operations in accordance with local tax laws (with assistance from local tax/accounting professionals). • Participate in preparation of annual GAAP financial statements and footnote disclosures, including subsidiary-standalone and consolidated financial statements. • Support month-end and year-end closing and financial reporting. • Support accounting and financial reporting aspects of AIR's ongoing M&A activities. • Provide regular feedback for process improvement initiatives.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. • 5-7 years of experience in accounting, preferably public accounting. • Strong knowledge of GAAP. • CPA/CPA candidate strongly preferred. • Experience with Form 990 and Form 990T, especially unrelated business income tax resulting from alternative investments. • Experience with government contracting organizations preferred. • Experience with Deltek-Costpoint strongly preferred. • Ability to work with deadlines and handle competing priorities. • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and collaboration skills. • Exceptional research, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
