We currently have an opportunity for a Controller. This position is responsible for managing the finance and accounting departments by entering, producing and providing information, primarily financial in nature, about all agency activities that will assist management, employee-owners, shareholders, and other users in making educated economic decisions about the agency’s future.
Additional duties may include:
Understand and demonstrate organization’s culture in all internal and external business functions.
Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
Maximizes return, and limits risk, on cash by minimizing bank balances; making investments.
Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
Ensures operation of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning new employees; following up on work results.
Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Manage the accuracy and productivity of the day-to-day activities of the accounts payable function including payments, vendor invoice entries, employee expense reports etc..
Assure financial plans are consistent with organizational goals.
Manage commercial banking relationships to facilitate an appropriate credit resource under highly competitive terms.
Work closely with the Management Team in the development and economic evaluation of various fringe benefit programs for staff.
Oversee the activities of the corporate accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and annual budgets.
Work closely with our external payroll vendor to ensure accurate payroll processing and total corporate payroll tax compliance.
Oversee the activities of the accounts receivable function to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts application, etc.
Work closely with our external accountants to assure corporate income tax compliance and the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes.
Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports.
Other duties as assigned.
Position Skills and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with coursework in Management preferred. Five or more years of experience is required along with prior supervisory experience.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, high level of detail orientation in interpreting financial statements and other financial reports, and the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage daily activities to ensure timely and accurate results.
