Works directly with the SVP of Finance and the Chief Financial Officer. Designs queries, creates reports and assists in data analysis. Completes special projects as assigned relative to financial affairs of system-wide operations or specific department/individual needs; provides analytical and informational support for evaluation/resolution of projects, programs, contracts, policies, procedures or practices.
Essential Functions and Job Duties
Maintains expert knowledge of Horizon Performance Manager System’s databases. Ensures that all database updates are used when available so that only the most current information is used.
Provides AD-HOC financial analytics for vice presidents and department managers. Provides assistance to hospital administration and departments to identify and implement new business opportunities.
Trains and provides support on use of system and interpretation of output data. Assists in the preparation and/or presentation of special projects to the Board of Directors, senior management and other applicable parties.
Supports sound accounting methods and procedures plus develops and installs decision support systems to maximize administrative and managerial control.
Recommends appropriate organizational actions and strategies to respond to projected economic trends and regulatory changes.
Assists in obtaining, evaluating, and presenting data needed for decision analysis, service design or market research. Evaluates major capital projects to determine their value in effective utilization of resources.
Participates in professional activities and maintains professional affiliations to keep abreast of trends/changes, regulations and legislation in the field.
Responsible for maintaining knowledge in all aspects of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, Medicare contracting and reimbursement methods for commercial payers and cost report preparation.
Education and/or Other Requirements
Bachelors degree or equivalent education/experience in accounting, health care management, or business administration required. Both financial and clinical background highly desirable. Five to seven years of previous hospital financial and accounting experience as well as an understanding of hospital operations is required.
Knowledge of all aspects of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement.
Knowledge of cost report preparation is preferred
Knowledge of Managed Care contracting and reimbursement methods for commercial payors.
