The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (“CFP Board”) - headquartered in Washington, D.C.-is the certifying body for financial planning professionals. It is a non-profit organization that fosters professional standards in personal financial planning through its setting and enforcement of the education, examination, experience, ethics, and other requirements for the CFP certification.
CFP Board is seeking a Staff Accountant who will be responsible for performing month-end close activities, maintaining fixed asset records, company accruals, cash reporting and reconciling general ledger accounts and assisting with financial reporting and the annual audit.
Responsible for the monthly and annual accounting close process which includes ensuring accurate results are delivered on-time. Ensures all accounts are reconciled at month and year-end
Prepares daily bank reconciliations, and recommends solutions for resolving identified discrepancies
Assists in treasury functions to include banking administration, accounts receivable management, preparation of cash forecasts and variance reporting
Updates and maintains fixed assets sub ledger and calculation of monthly depreciation/amortization expense
Reconciles balance sheet and income statement accounts to the general ledger; researches discrepancies and determines appropriate courses of action for review and approval
Manages employee corporate credit card applications and charges
Maintains and updates systems related to the corporate credit card program
Performs calculations for investment activities based on monthly statements
Manages cash receipts in various systems and integrations to Great Plains
Prepares variance analyses of revenue and expense accounts
Prepares annual audit schedules and provides backup documentation, as requested, to auditors
Prepares monthly reports for the Chief Financial Officer, Controller and the Finance & Investment Committee
Compiles and prepares information for a third-party tax preparer necessary to complete the organization’s Form 990/990T; ensures returns’ accuracy and timely filing in accordance with federal and local regulations
Participates in the annual budgeting process
Verifies approvals and completeness of employee timesheets for payroll processing
Generates bi-weekly payroll journal entry from payroll processing application and prepares for review prior to posting
Manages petty cash account
Performs other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting
CPA or CPA candidate is preferred
Minimum 4 years’ professional non-profit accounting experience
A thorough understanding of, and experience with, applying generally accepted accounting principles
Expert-level experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains
Proficiency with NetForum or another AMS
Well-developed MS Excel skills
General knowledge of banking activities/treasury functions
Attention to detail and strong reconciliation skills a must
