Due to the retirement, of our President and CEO, the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“WICPA”) is seeking a new leader.
The President and CEO will provide leadership to the WICPA organization, its members, Board of Directors, Executive Committee and other volunteer leaders to maximize the member experience.
As the principal ambassador of the WICPA and the CPA profession in Wisconsin, the President and CEO often acts as the primary spokesperson of the association to professional groups and the media. The President and CEO is responsible for the coordination, planning and implementation or execution of the business plan by effectively collaborating with its members and staff.
Primary Areas of Responsibility:
Executive, Fiscal and Strategic Leadership o Provide oversight and accountability for the overall performance of the organization o Support staff by providing guidance, training, resources, and consistent communication of the vision and strategy of the organization o Ensure that the organization has appropriate processes and resources to effectively serve the organization's advocacy needs, including monitoring regulatory matters impacting the profession and the organization, and establishing positive collaborative working relationships with lawmakers, policy makers, and other stakeholders o Review and adjust staff organizational structure to maintain efficient operations, workplace policies and processes and provide a positive culture including benefits and training to attract and maintain talent o Attend WICPA Board meetings, AICPA Council meetings, Educational Foundation Board meetings, WICPA Finance Committee meetings, WICPA Public Policy Committee meetings, Accounting Examining Board meetings, and other appropriate meetings and events o Review financial statements to identify trends and variances that may impact the organization’s fiscal health in order to identify and implement operational, strategic changes o Maintain professional designations and affiliations that support the WICPA professional credibility
Governance o Collaborate with the Board and staff to identify and implement strategies to effectively serve members' needs o Maintain appropriate Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) governance, which in part includes awareness of laws impacting operation and potential risks to the overall organization o Research best governance practices and identify and recommend changes in governance processes and policies when appropriate to most effectively serve the members o Collaborate with the Board Chair to determine agendas, logistics, and processes for Board meetings
Customer Service o Respond to inquiries from members and others relating to the CPA profession, career opportunities, ethics, technical questions, licensing matters, operational matters, complaints from members and others relating to WICPA operations or related matters, the CPA profession, or individual CPAs, as well as practice leadership and succession planning matters o Contribute article to bi-monthly WICPA print publication, On Balance
Advocacy o Collaboratively plan, coordinate, and conduct advocacy activities with outside legislative counsel, volunteer members and staff to support desirable legislation and prevent the enactment of undesirable legislation o Testify and arrange for testimony at hearings to represent the perspective of the accounting profession o Attend Public Policy Committee meetings, Accounting Examining Board meetings, and occasional political and legislative events to represent the WICPA and the accounting profession
Educational Foundation o Collaborate with staff, volunteers, educators, government agencies, policy makers and others to encourage students to consider accounting careers and promote the image of the CPA profession
Vendor Relations o Promote positive collaborative relationships with vendors that purchase WICPA advertising and otherwise support the WICPA in order to benefit members
Position Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree – Business Administration- Accounting or related field, desired • 10+ years of progressive professional, executive, or leadership experience • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Association Executive (CAE), a plus • Advocacy skills and knowledge of legislative process, a plus • Prior or present Association leadership and involvement, desired • Exhibit a credible professional image necessary to effectively represent WICPA members • Proven leadership and strategic planning and execution experience • Strong business writing, verbal communication, negotiation and presentation skills • Strong financial and information technology competencies
