The Controller is responsible for supervision of and direction to the Accounts Payable, Accounting and Payroll staff, ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed.
Works with CFO in the yearly preparation and coordination of the hospital's capital and operating budget.

Direct the accounting department’s daily operations
Month-End Closings/Financial Reporting
Evaluate all Accounts Receivables with the collaboration of the Business Office to ensure the appropriate Net Collectible Revenue; record all related journal entries
Review Government Receivables with Director of Government Programs to ensure the appropriateness of the Net Collectable Revenue
Analyze trends and drivers in Net Revenue, i.e. acuity, coding discrepancies, contract changes, etc.
Analyze issues impacting bad debt expense and coordinate strategies with the Business Office to improve collections
Analyze all expense trends and formulate variance explanations
Complete Management reports detailing results from operations
Provide financial analysis on strategies and/or initiatives for inclusion in the annual business plan
Conduct Productivity Meetings with Department Directors to assist in meeting budgeted targets
Review the Income Statement on a monthly basis and identify cost savings opportunities with department directors, i.e. labor, rentals,
Prepare Mid-Month projections and evaluate/implement EBITDA recovery strategies with CFO
Prepare Quarterly Forecasts
Prepare Annual Budget based on hospital’s annual business plan initiatives
Lead incidental projects in preparation for annual budget, i.e. oversee the completion of staffing grids by department directors
Manage and forecast Capital Cash Flow
Assist in the preparation of pro forma Profit & Loss statements for capital investments
Perform Cost Analysis reports for specific product lines to determine contribution margin and overall profitability
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field required
MBA/MHA or CPA preferred
Five years or more of accounting or related experience preferably in healthcare required
Three years of managerial experience preferred
