We are seeking a degreed Tax Accountant who will report to the Manager of Taxation and assist with tax functions relating to property portfolios, alternative investments, and corporate entities. HGI has a complex and multi-tiered partnership tax structure. The Tax Accountant will have exposure to federal and state partnership tax returns, non-U.S. investor tax forms, preferred equity and mezzanine debt investments, and complex real estate transactions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare income and withholding tax projections related to real property dispositions.
Prepare year-end tax projections for the Harbor Group GPs and select LP investors.
Prepare schedules to reconcile estimated to actual tax withholding for investors.
Prepare budgets and track annual partnership expenses for real estate entities.
Prepare and review Personal Property Tax Returns.
Review, research, and respond to tax notices and other various tax issues that may arise for property, partnership, and corporate entities.
Review tax returns prepared by CPA firms and prepare simple tax forms as needed.
Work with Investor Relations to respond to investor questions related to withholding and tax documents, including Schedule K-1s, 8805s, 1042-S’s, and 1099s.
Work with Property, Partnership, and Corporate Accountants to answer questions related to tax payments, refunds, or CPA firm invoices.
Communicate regularly with outside CPA firms regarding the preparation and delivery of Schedule K-1s and tax returns.
Assist Manager of Taxation and Legal Department with research related to property acquisitions, dispositions, and recapitalizations.
Assist Manager of Taxation with special projects as needed.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent discipline.
Advanced degree in taxation preferred.
2-3 years of relevant work experience in public accounting.
CPA or CPA candidate required.
Experience with real estate partnership taxation required.
Experience with real estate purchase and sale transactions preferred.
Strong oral and written communication, good listening skills, and excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and work well under pressure.
Ability to balance time during busy annual reporting/ tax season.
Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively.
Experience with entire Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Very strong Microsoft Excel skills required.
Experience with MRI and YARDI a plus.
